Download: La Roux – Quicksand
La Roux is certainly two things, firstly, she is not French and secondly, she is pretty much guaranteed to be one of the big acts for 2009. Elly Jackson is 20 years old, she has a short ginger bob, freckles, a nose that makes your heart turn to a puddle, but more importantly a way with melodies that makes everything else around you completely vanish.
‘Quicksand’ is blog-hot-as-you-like at the moment, no doubt thanks to a smart move by her management to release on too-kool-for-skool Paris based lifestyle boutique uber tastemaker label Kitsune (more Kitsune releases). Now one of the big labels have picked her up and a tour with Miss Lilly Allen ensues. Like everything musically fresh and interesting at present, musicians are looking at Prince for his production, arrangement and track structure for inspiration, and La Roux is no different.
Quicksand is infectious, no doubt about that – whilst she may not be blessed with the voice of a goddess – the production and song structure is superb and lathen with infectious hooks. A pure glam disco stomper inspired by Studio 54. tip: also check out the Chateau Marmont Remix over at our friends Discodust
