Download: Marina and the Diamonds
We all love music for a grand variety of reasons, some as a stimulant for fun, some as a social means, others because it’s the industry they choose to work in and for some, it’s a sense of belonging. Yet, for whatever reason that a piece of music resonates with us as people – every so often a new artist comes along that connects – that makes the world stand still – that makes one and all feel a new renewed sense of reality and in some cases even hope
Here comes Marina and The Diamonds – signed to boutique New York label – NEON GOLD (seriously, this is the hottest label in the world right now with Passion Pit, better song that ‘Sleepyhead’ in ‘08, I want to hear it) – and from the moment you hear those wonderful vocals enter the fray, i’m at the very mercy of her every vocal turn – such emotion reminding me of everything wonderful that Tori Amos accomplished. The production is slick and doesn’t detract from the much loved demos floating around a few weeks ago – this is a modern contemporary pop song at it’s absolute best. And due to the wonders of modern music, there is a beautiful video effortlessly fluttering around this terrific pop song. Favorite moment – the vocal bridge at 2.01 minutes before heading straight into the chorus of ‘…we’ve got obsessions, i want to erase every nasty thought that bugs me every day in every week’.
