Essential Garage Rock
Garage Rock, the most primitive of all music genres. Basically 3 to 5 neanderthals getting together to bash their guitars, drums and anything else they can get their hands on, while screaming and growling unintelligent lyrics about girls, love and drugs. Still their simple raw and wild rock’n'roll is close to impossible not to love. In honor of three chords, guts and the original form of Do-It-Yourself punk, here are 15 Essential Garage Rock picks, from The Wailers 1962 album The Fabulous Wailers to the Black Lips’ 2007 effort Good Bad Not Evil.
Honorable mention goes out to Reigining Sounds, The Fuzztones, Los Peyotes, The Seeds, The Remains, Miracle Workers, Count Five, The Chesterfield Kings, The Neanderthals, King Kan & BBQ Show and many more which you can find on the three Nuggets compilations, the numerous Pebbles and Shaking Rumble compilations and all the other garage rock compilations out there. Oh, and pretty much everything on legendary labels like Crypt, Get Hip, Voxx, Bomp, In The Red, Norton and Dirty Waters Records.
