Factory Records’ 30th Anniversary Commemorated with Box Set
It’s thirty years since Factory Records first opened its doors in 1978. The anniversary will be commemorated by Rhino with a four-disc box set, featuring over 60 tracks by Factory’s finest artists.
The box set bears the fitting title A Factory Box Set, and follows the history of Factory in rough chronological order, beginning with Joy Division’s Digital from the the label’s first release A Factory Sample and ends with their last release Sunshine and Love by Happy Mondays. The box includes Factory’s biggest headliners Joy Division, New Order, Happy Mondays, Durutti Column and A Certain Ratio, as well as tracks by many of Factory’s other great but lesser-know artists like Section 25, the Wake, Quando Quango, Northside, OMD, James, Electronic, Tunnel Vision, among others.
Unfortunately, the box is set to be released first on January 12, 2009 and seemingly not on vinyl, so for those of you who want make your own Factory Vinyl box set and as tribute to one of the most original labels ever, we have put together a special selection of Factory Records which you can check out here.
