For the Love of Vinyl: The Album Art of Hipgnosis
Know for their inventive takes on the themes or titles of any given album, Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell, the founders of Hipgnosis, created a new visual language for album cover art in the 60s and 70s. With Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, Led Zeppelin’s House of the Holy, T. Rex’s Electric Warrior and The Nice’s Elegy they are responsible for some of the most iconic album covers ever made.
For the Love of Vinyl is the first book compiling the body of work of Hipgnosis and it’s a little treasure trove of history and stories, with more than sixty album covers generously explained by Thorgerson and Powell. This might just be the best Rock book of 2008!
