We got in touch with Sebastien of Loukum Records a while ago. Loukum Records is a French label based out of Cannes, which mainly releases techno. Loukum is currently working with artists such as SAdBOY, Gab Logan and Jeremstar. Below is a quick interview with Sebastien.

Nylvi: When did you first get involved in the music industry?

Seb: Since I was 16 years old, I first listened to dance music that I loved for the first time listening. Everything was done! I planned to get my own label.. I waited about 12 years to open mine own music label!

Nylvi:  What made you decide to start a label?

Seb: I’m fond of music, all I wanted to do, is to make my own label and promote the music I like! So I did! Now I’m trying to get my artists on the international scene!

Nylvi: What is the best thing about running a record label?

Seb: Looking for real people that want the same think like you, constructing, enjoying your music and making things happen!

Nylvi: How does an artist get signed to your label, what are you looking for?

Seb: I’m looking for talent, music that sounds good to my ear and sympathetic people.

Nylvi:  What artists are you working with at the moment?

Seb: Working with Gab Logan, SAdBOY and Jeremstar

Nylvi: What do you do to promote your label - Do you use a lot of Internet resources such as MySpace, web sites, etc?

Seb: Yes of course and even people in the music industry that believe in me, so I thank you all!

Nylvi: How does your label look at the future of the music industry and what do you consider to be the challenge and opportunities for indie labels?

Seb: I just want my label to work on! I don’t want to be a label like Emi, but just get people to know music and artists I like!

Nylvi: What do you think are the key factors for an independent record
label to succeed?

Seb: Having people that believe in you and can help you with their contacts, even investments they could give you, and radios that really want new type of sound to be released !

Nylvi: What’s your opinion on vinyl and the comeback of this old format? - Do you as a label focus more on vinyl now than before?

Seb: Vinyl must survive, all music should have been released on vinyl, all deejays that love music should mix on that format ! if I could, I would release all my artists on vinyl!

Nylvi: When did you buy your first vinyl record?

Seb: I was about 13 years old, the vinyl record was one of “DEBUT DE SOIREE” a French 80’s new wave music kind

Nylvi: What concerts have you been to lately?

Seb: No one yet, unfortunately no time for that, that’s not cool, I know!

Nylvi: Any records you want to recommend?

Seb: Superluxx – Witches ep !!! I produced this one on lift’in records!
