Merge Records Turns 20 – Festival and Book Release
Merge Records, home to bands like Superchunk, Neutral Milk Hotel, Arcade Fire, Magnetic Fields and many more is celebrating its 20th anniversary in style, we already been enjoying their Score compilation and right around the corner is their XX Merge 20th Anniversary Festival and the book “Our Noise: The Story of Merge Records” arrives in September.
The XX Merge Festival kicks off July 22th in the label’s home state of North Carolina with a line-up which includes label founders Superchunk, Lou Barlow, Polvo, Magnetic Fields, Ladybug Transistor, Destroyer, M. Ward and more. So if you happen to be near by, join the party to celebrate the past, present and future of Merge Records.
And on September 15, Algonquin Books will publish “Our Noise: The Story of Merge Records, the Indie Label That Got Big and Stayed Small” which chronicles the story of Merge from it’s humble beginnings in Superchunk’s Mac McCaughan and Laura Ballance rented home office back in 1989 to it’s present day status as one of the biggest and most enduringly good indie labels in America. The book written by John Cook includes interviews with Label founders McCaughan and Ballance and plenty of other people working with label over the years.
