The Cover Art Of Reid Miles (Blue Note Records)
Blue Note Records, the legendary jazz label, who gave us artists like Horace Silver, Jimmy Smith, Lee Morgan, Art Blakey, Lou Donaldson and many more, turned 70 in January. At least a small part of Blue Note’s success must be dedicated to Reid Miles, who joined Blue Note in 1956. His inventive use of type, a minimalist color palette and label co-founder Wolff’s black and white photographs created a truly unique visual language for the label and helped it establish itself as the coolest of all jazz labels.
