The Vinyl Anthropologist – Searching for Vinyl Records in Africa
Some of you probably have already heard about this, but I thought I should post it anyway for those, who have not yet seen it. It´s the story of the former New York based DJ, Frank Gossner (known as DJ Franc or Soulpusher), who went on a three-year record digging expedition in West Africa. With Conakry, the capital of Guinea, as his home base, Frank traveled various countries in the region, such as Sierra Leone, Ghana and Bening, with the goal of finding as many vintage African records as possible. Below is a video with selected scenes from the upcoming independent documentary film titled, ¨Take Me Away Fast¨ directed and shot by Leigh Lacobucci of trotroproductions.
For a more detailed account of Frank´s expedition I recommend to head over to his blog; Voodoo Funk, where you also can listen to mixes of African pop music from the 1970s! The full story is also available at Culture11.
