Vinyl Art: Christian Marclay – 2822 Records (PS1), 1987-2009

Christian Marclay, often known as the “unwitting inventor of turntablism” has his latest installation 2822 Records (PS1), 1987-2009, a site-specific floor-based installation of vinyl records on display at the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in New York this fall.
Consisting entirely of 12-inch records of every musical genre and style, Marclay’s installation highlights the experiential qualities of music and vinyl recording by inviting visitors to walk on the artwork. A similar installation from Marclay was part of the Sonic Youth exhibition Sonic Youth etc. : Sensational Fix earlier this year and back then David Byrne praised Marclay’s installation, commenting that “for a record lover, the experience is a kind of sacrilege – and that’s the point.”
2822 Records (PS1), 1987-2009 is on display until April 5, 2010. Read more here
