Worldtronics 2008
Worldtronics kicks off in Berlin tomorrow evening. The annual festival brings together electronic music from all over the world. This year’s program includes evenings dedicated to Pakistan, Brazil, New Zealand and Romania with music that has “either not yet made its mark, or has far more to offer us than the cliches would have us believe.”
So instead of Brazilian Baile Funk or loungey cafe ambience, you get Maracatu, brass brands and abstract noise and from Romania you don’t get the typical Balkan Beats but instead new Bucharest minimalism.
The opening evening is curated by Gudrun Gut and presents female artists from Georgia, Austria, Argentina, US, Japan, Columbia and Greece, who have all contributed to the “4 Women No Cry” compilation series on Gudrun Gut’s Label Monika Enterprise.
